Coming from the South go through Mangaweka (recognisable by DC3) about 500m and turn right into Ruahine Road. This road goes down the hill, over the Rangitikei River and veers around to the left. The Kawhatau Valley Road is then on your left. Gorringe’s shearers Quarters, starting point on walk, are 9.5kms up this road on the left and there is a KVW sign at the gateway.

Coming from the North, about 10kms South of Taihape is a road off to your left called Toe Toe Road. It is signposted with Kawhatau Outdoor Education Centre. Turn into Toe Toe road, it goes over the railway line then down over the Rangitikei River. Follow road for about 10kms and it takes a hard right hand turn into Potaka road. Then down over the Kawhatau River and up to a T intersection. This road is the Kawhatau Valley road. Turn left and Gorringe’s shearers Quarters, starting point on walk, is 500m up this road on the left. There is a KVW sign at the gateway.
